Movement Is Medicine — Even in Small Doses (or when driving kids around)
Somatic Movement for Stress Relief | 3-Minute Nervous System Reset
We often treat “movement” like another item on the to-do list. But in somatic therapy, movement isn’t just fitness — it’s communication. It tells your nervous system, you’re safe, you’re present, you can let go.
When you’re locked into screens, stress meetings, or family chaos, your nervous system gets stuck in “freeze.” Movement breaks that loop. You don’t need a gym — you need a few intentional moments.

Try this three-minute reset:
- Roll your shoulders slowly forward and back.
- Stretch your arms overhead and exhale.
- Gently shake your hands, feet, and head like you’re shaking off tension!
While I love my gym time or a good jog, when I need a mini reset you might find me playing the song “Shake it off” by our beloved Taylor Swift, shaking my head, shimmying my shoulders, and moving the energy in my body.
Small movements keep your body — and emotions — flexible.
In therapy, we integrate somatic tools that help you reconnect with your body and manage stress from the inside out. Learn more about our approach at Journey Forward Somatic Therapy.
