Try this before your next “power Monday”:

  1. Pause and place a hand on your chest and belly.
  2. Breathe deeply until your belly moves more than your chest.
  3. Set an intention for how you want to feel, not what you want to do.

I need this too! As I’m expanding my practice I found myself this morning rushing while trying to send one more email reply before dropping off my 13 year old for school. Competing priorities are not new to me. So after yelling “I’m coming!” I paused, noticed the tension in my body, took a deep breath and closed my computer. In the car ride I softened on purpose, wanting to connect with my son and talk (not always easy). It wasn’t perfect, it was a little messy truth be told, but it was intentional. I find myself over and over again needing to ground my body in order to live an intentional life – not a reactive one.  

You don’t need a perfect morning routine — just 60 seconds of awareness. Start your week from presence, not panic.

Try this: Set a timer for 60 seconds before opening your laptop tomorrow. Breathe, reset, then begin.
